Susanne Marx is a choreographer and director. She studied at the School for New Dance Development of the Amsterdam School of the Arts and at DasArts, Master of Theatre, in Amsterdam. She produces theatre and dance, often in collaboration with other theatre makers and artists from other disciplines. Her work is called docudance in reviews.
Lapswimmers communal art project for swimming pools, premiering in 2023 in Julidans, international Dancefestival Amsterdam.
In 2022 .STEFFA, a coproduction with City Theatre ITA, premiering in may 2022 for the liberation Da And toured through the Netherlands including the NDD, the international Dutch Dancefestival. It is a re-enactment of a performance of Steffa Wine, a Flamencodancer, who danced for the German occupiers in The City theatre in 1944.
In 2019 she created Gulliver,a Childrens Revolution, a piece with 120 young children in collaboration with the City Theatre ITA and the Dancecomapny of Amsterdam ICK. It toured in several theatres in Amsterdam. The documentary about the production Gulliver, een reus in de Bijlmer made bij Juliette Stevens, premièred at Cinedans Festival Amsterdam and was a.o. selected for the Dance for Camera Festival van het Lincoln Center, New York.
In 2016 she worked as a choreographer and dramaturg at de Deutsche Oper Berlin for the opera Gianni directed by Martin Butler.
In 2011 Meisje Loos (Lost Girl) premiered in Podium Mozaiek in Amsterdam in Julidans, the national Dancefestival in the Netherlands. In 2014 it was resumed and played throughout the whole country.
In 2010 she was commissioned by Kosmopolis, a Dancetheatredocupiece for kickboxing girls, Chicks and Kicks & Glory. It toured through the country for 2 years, but most important on Kickboxgala’s..
In 2008 she made Geboeid (Chained), a dance performance that played long to great acclaim in the Netherlands after the premiere in Julidans and the Neuköllner Oper in Berlin and was shown during the cultural capital city event of Istanbul.
